Ash could freely just run forward and press against an opponent and maintain safety upon block.

Close Heavy Punch (Close ) - Much like Kyo or Iori, this Close Heavy Punch attack is quite fast and functions quite well as a pressure move and as an anti-air.

Ash's Standing Heavy Punch may be used as an anti-air attack against incoming hop approaches or be simply used in blockstrings as a frame trap and to pressure. What sets this attack apart from the others is that this attack does actually cancel upon hit or block and hits a variety of crouching characters, unlike King's Standing Heavy Punch for example.

Standing Heavy Punch ( ) - The typical far Standing Heavy Punch attack in the same vein as Ryo's or Terry's.

This could be used in a middle of a string of attacks or simply be used to catch the opponent off guard if the opponent forgot about Ash's standing attacks that hit low.

Standing Light Kick ( ) - Although not the fastest light attack, this is a neat low-hitting normal attack to keep note of.

Just as most do, this Standing Light Punch whiffs upon crouching opponents. One of many anti-air attacks in Ash's repertoire. This attack is a standard anti-hop attack that carries little risk.

Standing Light Punch ( ) - A slight toss of the wrist.

Note that performing a Neomax (whether by itself, canceled from a normal move, or Max Canceled) will immediately deplete all remaining drive gauge and end HD mode.

Performing a Neomax while in HD mode only costs 2 stocks of meter.

Which desperation moves can be Max Canceled as well as the timing varies for each character.

Max Cancels become available, which is when a character cancels a desperation move into a Neomax.

Each HDC will consume a portion of the drive gauge, usually around 10%. These are similar to Drive Cancels, except they can also be done if the first special move was blocked.

Hyperdrive Cancels (abbreviated ) become available.

All normal moves and command normals become cancelable on all hits.

Activating HD mode causes the character to begin glowing and the drive gauge to begin gradually depleting. Having the drive gauge completely filled allows the character to perform a Neomax outside of HD mode (at the cost of 100% of the drive gauge and 3 stocks of super meter) or to enter into HD mode. Also, it is not possible to Super Cancel into a Neomax. Note that Drive Cancels cannot be performed unless the first special move hit, whereas Super Cancels can be performed on hit. You can never drive cancel out of projectile moves. Which special moves are eligible for Drive Cancels and/or Super Cancels varies for each character. Having at least half of the drive gauge filled allows the character to perform a Drive Cancel (canceling one special move into another, abbreviated ) or a Super Cancel (canceling a special move into a desperation move, abbreviated ), both at the cost of 50% of the drive gauge. Located immediately above the super meter is another meter known as the drive gauge. Ash cannot gain any super meter while his Sans Culotte is active) Note that super meter cannot be gained while in HD mode or during certain special states (e.g. Performing special move, regardless of whether they were hit, blocked, or whiffed (with some exceptions) Hitting with any attacks aside from normal throws and air throws Super meter accumulated by a character who was knocked out will carry over to the next character. This is the super meter, and the number represents how many stocks of super meter the character currently has stored. At the bottom of the screen is a number next to a meter that can gradually fill up over the course of a round.
